Does the plan allow you to choose the funeral director?

  • You can use your Midcounties Co-operative pre paid funeral plan in any one of the 1100 Co-operative owned or affiliated funeral homes in the UK.

What if your chosen director goes out of business?

  • The Midcounties Co-operative is one of the largest independent co-operatives in the U.K. with gross sales of more than £1 billion and is part of the wider co-operative movement. The funeralcare division is a member of the Funeral Planning Authority which ensures that consumers are protected.

What happens if the person the funeral is intended for dies abroad or away from home?

  • If you die abroad, your family or executors will have to have your body repatriated to the UK at their expense. The Midcounties Co-operative pre paid funeral plan will meet the cost transferring the deceased up to 50 miles to a Co-operative funeral home.

Can the funeral director arrange a funeral of a different standard from the one you have chosen?

  • A funeral plan is a legal contract and the Midcounties Co-operative will deliver the funeral to the standard specified in your application form and plan schedule. Any additional requests or wishes cannot be guaranteed.

Could there be any other expenses for the funeral, and what happens if there are?

  • Your Midcounties Co-operative pre paid funeral plan guarantees to meet the costs of all the items included in your pre paid funeral plan however much prices have increased.

Is it possible to cancel the plan if circumstances change?

  • You can cancel your Midcounties Co-operative pre paid funeral plan and get back the money you have paid.

Are there any cancellation charges?

  • For cancellations after the first 30 days, an administration charge of £250 may be deducted from your refund.

What if there are outstanding payments at death?

  • Your representatives have the option to pay any outstanding amount as a single payment or cancel the plan and receive a refund of all payments made.

If you pay by installments, how long do you do this for and do you have to pay interest?

  • You can pay for your Midcounties Co-operative pre paid plan over 12, 24, 36, 60 or 120 months.
  • An installment charge is added to plans that are paid over 24, 36, 60 or 120 months.

What happens if there are outstanding installments at death?

  • Your representatives have the option to pay any outstanding amount as a single payment or cancel the plan and receive a refund of all payments made.

What freedom do you have to change the details of your funeral plan?

  • You cannot add or remove individual items or services after you have paid for your Midcounties Co-operative pre paid funeral plan. If you want to change your plan, you will have to cancel your current plan and take out a new plan at the current price.
